Installer Etiquette

To anyone and everyone who creates installers for software.

Please name your installer setup.exe.

This goes for you too Microsoft.  I don’t want to have to hunt through 1001 files in a folder looking for some cryptically named EXE.  I had to install three pieces of software today, and all of them were named differently.  And no, an autorun.inf does not take care of this by itself.  I frequently extract iso’s and install off my harddrive and even if I was installing of a DVD/CD, I still never let them autorun.

Conversely, if your installer is available for download as a single file, please DO NOT call it setup.exe.  Give it a good name like FooBarInstaller1.3.exe.  That way, when I go hunting for it in my downloads folder, I don’t see fifteen setup(x).exe files that I have to run to figure out what they are.
